Basketball Recap: Mercyhurst Prep Finds Home Court Redemption Against Corry

There's no place like home for Mercyhurst Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 78-67 win over the Corry Beavers on Friday. For the Lakers, this counts as revenge for the 43-33 victory the Beavers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2021.

Mercyhurst Prep had a senior duo take command as Tanner Ashton posted 30 points along with eight assists and four steals and Alex Manendo dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ashton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of James Risto, who had 13 points and five rebounds.

Mercyhurst Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Mercyhurst Prep is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Corry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercyhurst Prep will square off against Slippery Rock at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Corry, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Franklin at 7:15 p.m. on January 14th.
