Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Takes a Loss

St. Augustine Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 16-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chandler Prep Titans. Even if the Wolves couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Alex Martinez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of St. Augustine Catholic's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Owen Ernle, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three RBI.

St. Augustine Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Chandler Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

St. Augustine Catholic has already played their next matchup, a 5-4 defeat against Bisbee on the 8th. As for Chandler Prep, they will face off against San Carlos at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
