The Flat Rock Rams will take on the Lincoln Railsplitters at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Flat Rock is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Flat Rock took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Huron, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Chiefs on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Rams, who have now won three games in a row.
Emma Neace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.
On the hitting side, Flat Rock's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Vanessa Neace, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Lincoln and Monroe meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Railsplitters took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. The matchup marked the Railsplitters' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Alyssa Strickland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Greene, who went 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Flat Rock pushed their record up to 7-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Flat Rock hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
