It was a good run, but The Independence Patriots unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 35-23 to Butler. Independence gained 162 more yards on the day, but it was Butler that made the best of use of them.
Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from Jayden Jones, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
It was another big night for Jayden Williams, who rushed for 137 yards, and also picked up 43 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Butler's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Nick Darling and his two sacks.
Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Butler, their victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Independence will head out on the road to face off against Lake Norman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Butler, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alexander Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alexander Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Butler is ranked third).
