If the Taylorsville Warriors were riding high off their 64-15 takedown of the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Taylorsville received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 61-44 to Riverton. Taylorsville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Riverton apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2019.
Marlee Reupena and Jenna Sterzer certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Reupena scored 16 points, while Sterzer scored eight points along with nine rebounds. Reupena is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Felika Tauvao, who scored five points.
Even though they lost, Taylorsville were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverton only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Riverton was led to victory by Emmalee Christensen and Faythe Stauffer. Christensen scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while Stauffer scored 21 points along with three steals. The contest was Stauffer's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Maggie Hamblin was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Taylorsville's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Riverton, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taylorsville will challenge Hunter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hunter is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Riverton, they will head out on the road to face off against Fremont at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fremont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
