The Workman Lobos will square off against the Ganesha Giants at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Workman has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Workman came up short against Edgewood on Tuesday, falling 14-3. The Lobos haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Leana Sanchez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Ganesha waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Giants, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Johana Pina was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Lacy VanTuinen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Ganesha hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 14 consecutive games.
Ganesha pushed their record up to 15-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Workman, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Workman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .594. However, it's not like Ganesha struggles in that department as they've averaged .535. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Workman suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Ganesha in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Lobos have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
