WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight recap Oct. 16, 2012
North Allegheny extended the longest winning streak in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week by beating Central Catholic, 28-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Pine-Richland led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Shaler Area.
North Allegheny's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mack Leftwich threw for 142 and one touchdown and Elijah Zeise had 63 yards receiving. On the ground Alex DiCiantis chipped in 157 yards. Zach Lyon helped North Allegheny's passing attack out by catching two balls for 35 yards.
Art Walker's team's Leftwich and Gregg Garrity have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Leftwich has thrown for 1349 yards this season, while Garrity, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 23 catches for 451 yards. Forrest Barnes from Seneca Valley leads the league in rushing with 823 yards.
A big matchup in WPIAL AAAA Northern Eight this week will be when the Rams take on North Hills. Pine-Richland is in fifth place, while the Indians are in third place.
The Vikings made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,289 from 1,472. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 28-0 victory over Central Catholic last week.
