The Cherokee Braves will head out to challenge the Rosman Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherokee hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Swain County hit Cherokee with a eight-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Braves lost 15-1 to the Maroon Devils.
Player #20 put in work no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). Player #20 was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Russell Reed stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Chaske Raines, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Rosman scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 16-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of Murphy.
Derrick Friend made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Henderson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Cherokee's record is now 1-7. As for Rosman, their record now sits at an identical 1-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cherokee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rosman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
