Basketball Game Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

The Lowell Red Devils will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lowell's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Greenfield-Central's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Lowell is headed into Thursday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-44 heartbreaker at the hands of Kouts.

Lowell might have lost, but man, Elysia Laub was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 boards. The dominant performance gave Laub a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Gatlin Hanrath, who posted three points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lowell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Greenfield-Central entered their contest against Delta on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Greenfield-Central took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Delta.

Greenfield-Central's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-4. As for Lowell, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.

Lowell came up short against Greenfield-Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 49-36. Can Lowell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
