After a string of five wins, the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to South Decatur 43-38. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Jac-Cen-Del came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while South Decatur is ranked 213th).
Jac-Cen-Del's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reagan Hughes, who scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds. Hughes scored a full 52.6% of Jac-Cen-Del's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Kaylin Hinners was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 9 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Jac-Cen-Del were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Decatur only pulled down five.
South Decatur's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiley Best, who scored 21 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Best has scored at least 25% of South Decatur's points. Another player making a difference was Makalya Somers, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds.
Jac-Cen-Del's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for South Decatur, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Jac-Cen-Del will head out on the road to face off against South Dearborn at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for South Decatur, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Greensburg at 7:30 p.m. on November 30th.
