Basketball Recap: South Effingham Comes Up Short

South Effingham was the 45-43 winner over Jenkins when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The South Effingham Mustangs fell to the Jenkins Warriors 41-36. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Warriors are ranked 97th).

Despite the loss, South Effingham still got an impressive performance from Alayiah Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards. Lewis is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Johanson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.

Aniyah Browner was the offensive standout of the contest as she went 7 of 16 on her way to 14 points and five steals. What's more, she also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Heaven Arkwright was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

South Effingham's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Jenkins, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.

South Effingham wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 45-39 win against Effingham County on the 7th. As for Jenkins, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-45 victory against Windsor Forest on the 6th.
