Softball Recap: Enfield Wins Going Away Against Manchester

Enfield came out on top against Manchester on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Red Hawks with a sharp 12-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Payten Stebbins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Lyver, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Hailey Anderson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Enfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manchester only posted an OBP of .053.

The victory made it two in a row for Enfield and bumps their season record up to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Manchester, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Enfield will head out to take on East Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
