Doddridge County and Calhoun are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Doddridge County Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Calhoun Red Devils at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Doddridge County has six straight victories, Calhoun has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Thursday, Doddridge County strolled past Webster County with points to spare, taking the game 58-43.
Doddridge County relied on the efforts of Aleigh Cheeseman, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Payton Trent, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Tenley Paugh, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Calhoun took a serious blow against Gilmer County on Tuesday, falling 72-20. While losing is never fun, Calhoun can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Gilmer County is ranked 12th).
Doddridge County pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Calhoun, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Everything came up roses for Doddridge County against Calhoun in their previous meeting two weeks ago as the team secured a 61-23 win. With Doddridge County ahead 32-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.
