Willamette and South Eugene are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Willamette Wolverines will head out on the road to take on the South Eugene Axe at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Willamette has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while South Eugene will arrive with five straight victories.
Willamette suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Thursday. Their tough 57-31 loss to Grants Pass might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Willamette can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Grants Pass is ranked 111th).
Even though South Eugene has not done well against North Medford recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. South Eugene enjoyed a cozy 79-65 win over North Medford. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Willamette's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for South Eugene, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Willamette came up short against South Eugene when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 63-56.
