Vernon is 0-4 against Blountstown since February of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. Vernon will look to defend their home field against Blountstown at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Wednesday, Vernon got the win against Graceville by a conclusive 18-5. That looming 18-5 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Yellowjackets yet this season.
Wyatt Glenn made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Glenn was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caiden Coltrane, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He has become a key player for Vernon: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Colton Glover, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Vernon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Blountstown posted their closest win since March 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Port St. Joe 13-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Carson Stafford was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryson Fleck was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Tyler Jones was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Vernon's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-12. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.33 hits in those games compared to only 4.73 in the others. As for Blountstown, their win bumped their record up to 5-14.
Vernon might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from Blountstown in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Can Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
