Mainland is 1-9 against Father Lopez since March of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Buccaneers will look to defend their home field against the Green Wave at 4:00 p.m. Father Lopez took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Mainland, who comes in off a win.
While Mainland's victory against Orlando Christian Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buccaneers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Warriors 8-6. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.
Elijah Burgess made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Trevor Pittman was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, Father Lopez unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Pine Ridge on Tuesday, falling 10-2. The Green Wave haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Liam McKinley was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Mainland now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Father Lopez, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Everything went Mainland's way against Father Lopez in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, as Mainland made off with a 14-4 win. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Green Wave have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
