On Saturday, things could have been worse for Barnwell, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-49 loss to Williston-Elko. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Barnwell in their matchups with Williston-Elko: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Barnwell saw an underclassman step up: Vashahd Scofield scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scofield has scored all season. Henri Creech was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, even though Hilton Head Christian Academy scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, Hampton County still came out on top. Hampton County skirted past Hilton Head Christian Academy 67-64. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Hampton County has posted yet this season.
Hampton County had a senior duo take command as Kavon Chisolm scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and Devon Allen scored 15 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Hector Rakes, who scored eight points.
Barnwell has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Hampton County, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Barnwell was taken down by Hampton County 86-44 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Barnwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
