Basketball Recap: Eagle Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Middleton

On Friday, Eagle faced Middleton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eagle Mustangs took a hard 56-37 fall against the Middleton Vikings. The match marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Eagle still got an impressive performance from Porter Wood, who posted eight points along with five boards and four steals. That's the most steals Wood has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Thompson, who had nine points.

Even though they lost, Eagle was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Middleton only racked up five assists.

Miley Steele was a one-woman wrecking crew for Middleton as she went 7 of 10 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Steele is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawn Holman, who put up 11 points.

Eagle's loss dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Middleton, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Eagle wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-48 victory against Pocatello on the 4th. As for Middleton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-48 win against Madison on the 4th.
