Oxnard is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Ventura is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Yellowjackets will host the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxnard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Oxnard beat Buena 6-1. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
Rachel Godoy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Kayla Lorona was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cydnie Gutierrez, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Ventura gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 19-14 victory over Pacifica.
Jessie Sebek made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up four earned (and ten unearned) runs off 11 hits. Sebek was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Halley, who scored three runs while going 5-for-6. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Tessa Denger was another key player, scoring four runs while going 2-for-6.
Ventura hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 12 consecutive contests.
Oxnard's win bumped their record up to 12-4-1. As for Ventura, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Oxnard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Ventura struggles in that department as they've averaged .439. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Oxnard's way against Ventura in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Oxnard made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
