Piedmont Classical is 3-0 against Cornerstone Charter since December of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Piedmont Classical Bobcats challenge the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. Piedmont Classical is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Piedmont Classical came up short against Leadership Academy and fell 54-45. The contest marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Despite their defeat, Piedmont Classical saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. La'Trel Smith, who went 7 of 15 en route to 17 points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Ferrell, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.
Meanwhile, after only 25 points in their last game, Cornerstone Charter made sure to put some points up on the board against Triad Math and Science Academy on Tuesday. Cornerstone Charter walked away with a 56-49 victory over Triad Math and Science Academy. While the Cardinals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Cornerstone Charter found their leader in sophomore Charles Walker, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 20 points along with eight boards and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Walker has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lake Bristol, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points.
Cornerstone Charter pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Piedmont Classical, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Piedmont Classical has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cornerstone Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Piedmont Classical against Cornerstone Charter in their previous matchup back in February, as the team secured a 72-42 victory. Will Piedmont Classical repeat their success, or does Cornerstone Charter have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
