Baseball Recap: Cheshire Extends Winning Streak to Three

Cheshire had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Shelton Gaels. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since May 1, 2024.

Joshua Bonomo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Cheshire let Luke Mann and Joseph Amodei run wild. Mann got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Amodei went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Mann has hit this season. Jackson Enders was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Cheshire hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Cheshire now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Shelton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cheshire will host East Haven at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.6 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Shelton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairfield Prep at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Gaels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jesuits have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
