The Essex Trojans put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Charles City with points to spare, taking the game 49-30. Given Essex's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Charles City is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Essex got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keimare Gray out in front who scored 13 points. Octavia Floyd was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Essex has yet to lose a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 4-0 record. As for Charles City, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Essex will head out on the road to face off against Surry County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Charles City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mathews at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
