After flying high against the Weld Central Rebels last Thursday, the Berthoud Spartans came back down to earth. Berthoud was the victim of a rough 59-35 defeat at the hands of The Classical Academy on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Berthoud can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while The Classical Academy is ranked 99th).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Meg Hidalgo, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hidalgo has scored all season. Avery Pfohl was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Alaina Bonacquista, who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists for The Classical Academy. Bonacquista has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Peterson, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Berthoud has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for The Classical Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berthoud will take on University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in University's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. As for The Classical Academy, they will be playing at home against Falcon at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
