The Aiken Falcons had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 57-49 win over Scott. Given Aiken's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 35th in Ohio, while Scott is ranked 102nd in Kentucky), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tayvon Smith was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Glass, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dylan Giffen, who scored 14 points. The matchup was Giffen's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Xarek Sarakatsannis, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Aiken pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Scott, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Aiken and Starr's Mill will round out the year against one another at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Starr's Mill is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Scott and North Oldham will face off at 5:30 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in North Oldham's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
