The Southside Seahawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They lost to Pamlico County on the road by a decisive 51-33 margin. Southside found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 13 fewer assists than your opponent.
Southside's loss came despite strong showings from Tamya Smith and I'Kiriyah Minor. Smith scored 15 points along with five steals and three blocks, while Minor scored 12 points along with three steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaliah Moore, who scored two points along with four blocks.
Pamlico County found their leader in underclassman Sydney Whitley-Reese, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Whitley-Reese hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Kyliyah Barber, who scored 12 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Pamlico County, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southside will take on the Devil Pups at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lejeune and the Seahawks are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Pamlico County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. East Carteret will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
