The Culver Community Cavaliers will square off against the Triton Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Culver Community came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to Bremen. The Cavaliers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
The final score came out to 25-20, 25-12, 25-20.
Triton won the last time they faced South Central and Lydia Hammond did her part to make sure it happened again. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Satellites 3-2 with plenty of help from Hammond, who had 25 digs and one assist. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10.3 digs per game.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Triton who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-13, 14-25, 15-11.
Culver Community better focus on containing Clara Doll and Avery Viers as the pair were huge in Triton's win. Doll had eight digs and one block, while Viers had 30 kills, 21 digs, and one block. Viers is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 37 games she's played dating back to last season.
Culver Community's defeat dropped their record down to 17-12. As for Triton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's contest: Culver Community has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Culver Community was able to grind out a solid win over Triton when the teams last played back in September, winning 2-0. Will the Cavaliers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
