Portage took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They walked away with an 18-7 victory over the West Shamokin Wolves. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Portage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Slanoc, who threw for 151 yards and three TDs on only 12 passes, and also rushed for 60 yards. Those three passing touchdowns gave Slanoc a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Llheson Walker, who gained 85 total yards and a touchdown.
Portage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Walker and Dominic Berardinelli.
Despite the loss, West Shamokin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cole Wingard rushed for 109 yards and one score on only 14 carries. Wingard got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 68 yards.
