Football Recap: Roane County Extends Winning Streak to Five

Roane County barely beat Nicholas County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 38-12 margin over the Grizzlies on Friday. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 26 points or more this season.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Javon Letourneau and Koltyn Starcher. Letourneau gained 158 total yards and two touchdowns while Starcher rushed for 137 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Those 137 rushing yards gave Starcher a new career-high.

Roane County's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB four times. In that department, Garrett Brabham was the leader with 2.5 sacks. Roane County received some extra help from Braxton Browning, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

The win was the fifth in a row for Roane County, bringing their record up to 7-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.6 points on average over those games. As for Nicholas County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Roane County will face off against Poca at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Nicholas County, they will challenge Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
