Orem is 2-8 against Uintah since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Orem will face off against Uintah at 3:30 p.m. Orem is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Orem gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over Wasatch.
Kiley Hoshnic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sadie Groneman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Cheyanne Wells was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Groneman wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Orem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. Orem is 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Uintah). They put the hurt on Provo with a sharp 18-2 win on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Utes, who have now won four games in a row.
Kayla Olson was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Addison Buist also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Uintah pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.83 strikeouts in those games compared to only four in the others. As for Orem, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Orem has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like Uintah struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Orem's way against Uintah in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Orem made off with a 9-3 victory. Does Orem have another victory up their sleeve, or will Uintah turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
