Video: Top 10 Games of the Week
Central (Miami) at Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.)
Friday, 7:30 p.m. Eastern timeWhy it's big: Miami Central has knocked Mainland out of the playoffs three of the last four seasons. That should provide more than enough motivation for the Buccaneers, who host Central Friday night in the Class 6A state quarterfinals.
Mainland (11-1) is unbeaten against Florida opponents. Its only loss was on the road against No. 15 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) on Oct. 10.
Miami Central (9-2) avenged its only in-state loss when it thumped Carol City, 36-8, last week. The Rockets' other loss was against No. 17 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) in the season opener.
Names to watch: Junior quarterback
Denzel Houston threw for a touchdown and ran for another score to lead a come-from-behind 21-14 win over Heritage (Palm Bay). Houston was a member of the MaxPreps Sophomore All-American Team last season.
Florida recruit
Eric Mitchell and fellow three-star prospect
Keir Thomas anchor a Miami Central defensive line that has held all but two opponents under 20 points.
