The Lamar Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Haltom Buffalos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lamar will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Lamar will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Martin, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vikings enjoyed a cozy 40-21 win over the Warriors last Thursday. The Vikings' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Lamar's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tayrone Thomas led the charge by rushing for 200 yards and a pair of scores. With that strong performance, Thomas is now averaging an impressive 108.5 rushing yards per game. Lamar also got help from Khamill Pruitt, who showed off his sure hands for 142 receiving yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lamar was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 289 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lamar's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Marquis Reis with two. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Lamar got some further help from Braylon Williams: he made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Haltom was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arlington. The Buffalos were up 21-7 in the third quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Lamar will have to contain Vudrico Roberson as he made an impact in Haltom's last game. He rushed for 237 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Roberson showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 69 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathaniel Golatt, who rushed for 45 yards and a pair of TDs.
The victory got Lamar back to even at 2-2. As for Haltom, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Lamar has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 181.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Haltom struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 281.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Lamar came up short against Haltom in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, falling 38-33. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
