The Logan Grizzlies will face off against the Layton Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Logan is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Logan will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Northridge, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. The Grizzlies walked away with an 8-5 win over the Knights on Saturday.
Cambree Cooper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Cooper was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Leila Pauni was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. Miley Allen was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Layton). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Summit Academy a 20-0 shutout on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Like Logan, Layton also got a great game from a two-way player: Nora Morrow. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Morrow was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Macie Clark was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Megan Child, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Layton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.4.
Layton is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Logan, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-11.
Layton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Logan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Layton, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Logan's sizable advantage in that area, the Lancers will need to find a way to close that gap.
