II Section III recap Nov. 7, 2012
Chaparral was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in II Section III. The Firebirds defeated Perry 45-7 earlier in the week.
Chaparral extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Pumas, 45-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for Dave Huffine's team.
Josh Eckley and Mauriece Lee gave Marcos de Niza a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Eckley threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns, while Lee ran for 149 yards. Teammate Eckley added to the ground attack by rushing for 56 yards.
Jordin Hamilton was the best wideout in the league this week as the Firebirds bested Perry. Hamilton tallied four receptions for 112 yards. Jake Roh helped Chaparral's passing attack out by catching six balls for 68 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Bryce Kinsler of Cactus Shadows is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2507. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. On the ground, Prescott's Brady Mengarelli has rushed for 1874 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Paul Elvira. The Marcos de Niza star has 54 catches for 1278 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Chaparral and the Padres. The Firebirds enters the contest ranked 15th in the state, while Marcos de Niza ranks 11th.
There should be lots of points scored when Chaparral and Roy Lopez's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Firebirds comes in having scored 421 this season, while the Padres have scored 488. Chaparral scored 45 points last week as it topped Preston Jones' team.
Marcos de Niza took down Fairfax 49-9 last week, the largest margin of any game. Eckley in the win.
