The Van Buren Pointers will head out on the road to face off against the Little Rock Christian Academy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Van Buren will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
With a playoff game on the line, Van Buren rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on West Memphis with a sharp 55-32 win. The result was nothing new for Van Buren, who have now won four matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Van Buren can attribute much of their success to Cameron Keller, who gained 265 total yards and three touchdowns, and Bryce Perkins, who threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns. Keller was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Trenton Cooley was in the mix too, providing Van Buren with two touchdowns.
Van Buren's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Alex Welborn was especially locked on to West Memphis' QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Little Rock Christian Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak two weeks ago. They took a 56-39 bruising from Greenwood. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
The losing side was boosted by Walker White, who rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 288 yards and a touchdown. Cade Bowman also helped out as he racked up 108 receiving yards.
Van Buren's win lifted them to 5-6 while Little Rock Christian Academy's defeat dropped them down to 8-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Van Buren has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 373.6 total yards per game. However, it's not like Little Rock Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 416.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Van Buren was dealt a bruising 58-3 defeat at the hands of Little Rock Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Little Rock Christian Academy's White, who threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Now that Van Buren knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
