The South Side Rams will head out to take on the Mohawk Area Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, South Side turned things around against Bishop Canevin on Monday. They never let the Crusaders get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory. The matchup marked the Rams' most dominant win of the season.
Maya Ringhoff was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, seven RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, South Side got a massive performance out of Ariel Poelcher, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Raegann Tate, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
South Side always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mohawk Area waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Antelopes 16-6.
Like South Side, Mohawk Area also got a great game from a two-way player: Reagan Magno. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. Magno was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. That run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Addy Moskal was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Lydia Cole was another key player, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-5.
Mohawk Area's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for South Side, their record now sits at 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Side has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mohawk Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Side suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Mohawk Area when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
