The Cliffside Park Raiders will take on the New Milford Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Cliffside Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
New Milford will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Cliffside Park extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Raiders blew past Dwight Morrow 8-1. Considering the Raiders have won five games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Nicolas Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kayden Moeller and Freddy Fland did most of the damage at the plate: Moeller scored three runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-3, while Fland went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Moeller has posted since back in April of 2024. Breidy Marine was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Cliffside Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, New Milford came up short against Waldwick on Wednesday and fell 11-6. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Andrew Schmitt was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Schmitt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Matthew Mulligan and Luis Placido stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mulligan scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Placido went 2-for-4 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Aviles, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
New Milford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Cliffside Park, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
New Milford's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cliffside Park has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. It's a different story for New Milford, though, as they've only averaged .350. Will they be able to contain Cliffside Park's hitters?
Cliffside Park couldn't quite get it done against New Milford in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
