Even though the Sumiton Christian Eagles have not done well against the Winston County Yellowjackets recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Sumiton Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Winston County and snuck past 37-35. Given Sumiton Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Winston County is ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Winston County saw an underclassman step up: Lynleigh Cobb dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Cobb has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played.
Sumiton Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Winston County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sumiton Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Dora at 5:30 p.m. on December 12th. Dora is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Sumiton Christian a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Winston County is on the road again on Thursday and play against Red Bay at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th.
