The East Rutherford Cavaliers put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Bessemer City 56-41. Given East Rutherford's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Bessemer City is ranked 458th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Rutherford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Taniyah Cash, who scored 15 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Cash scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Zilah Dewberry, who scored 16 points.
East Rutherford's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Bessemer City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Rutherford is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Mountain Island Charter at 6:00 p.m. on December 13th. Bessemer City will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Thomas Jefferson at 9:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
