St. Mary and Lodi are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Rams will welcome the Flames at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, St. Mary's put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They came out on top against West by a score of 15-11.
Ava Arucan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and ten unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Maya Garcia was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and four RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matea Muraoka, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. Mary's hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Lodi got themselves on the board against West on Tuesday, but West never followed suit. They blew past the Wolfpack 14-0. Considering the Flames have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Schweigerdt made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Ellie Schallberger was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Tealla Rivera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Lodi is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13.
St. Mary's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Rams have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lodi, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will St. Mary's continue to outrun the ball?
St. Mary's suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Lodi in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Will the Rams have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
