The Lake Nona Lions will face off against the Poinciana Eagles at TBD on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lake Nona can finally bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 42-28 win over Freedom. That 14 point margin sets a new team best for Lake Nona this season.
Lake Nona found their leader in underclassman Nadeen Elgamal, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Poinciana was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past the Broncos 70-24 at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Poinciana.
Poinciana got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Keyanna Stanley out in front who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Stanley continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalia Calderon, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Lake Nona's win ended a 14-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-12. As for Poinciana, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Lake Nona was able to grind out a solid victory over the Eagles in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, winning 48-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lake Nona since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
