The De Anza Dons suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Pinole Valley by a score of 59-57. De Anza has struggled against Pinole Valley recently, as their contest on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, De Anza saw an underclassman step up: Ahmari Otis scored 39 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Otis has scored all season.
Leading Pinole Valley to victory were Jaylin Reed and Chriseanie Nealy. Reed scored 17 points along with three blocks and two steals, while Nealy scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Nealy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Romyn Waugh, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
De Anza's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Pinole Valley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.
De Anza will be playing at home against Salesian College Preparatory at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Salesian College Preparatory's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 15 contests. As for Pinole Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge Analy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
