Spokane hasn't had much luck against Clever recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Owls will square off against the Blue Jays at 5:00 p.m. Spokane has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Spokane challenged Fordland on Friday. The Owls came up short against the Eagles, falling 12-6.
Sarah Essick made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Addie Gimlim was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clever). They were the clear victors by a 24-7 margin over Strafford on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Blue Jays as they're now sitting on six straight.
Ava Mittag made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Clever got a massive performance out of Savannah Cheney, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, nine RBI, and one double. Those nine RBI gave Cheney a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinsey Coble, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs and one stolen base.
Clever was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Strafford only posted a batting average of .333.
Clever's record now sits at 12-3. As for Spokane, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Spokane might still be hurting after the 19-0 defeat they got from Clever when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
