Basketball Recap: Cobden Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Cobden won the last time they faced Joppa-Maple Grove, and Natalie Franklin did her part to make sure it happened again. The Cobden Appleknockers came out on top against the Joppa-Maple Grove Rangers by a score of 43-36 on Monday thanks in part to Franklin, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 boards. The contest was her third in a row with at least ten points.

Another player making a difference was Abby Pitts, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. Those 12 points gave her a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Joppa-Maple Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaylea Anderson went 6 for 10 en route to 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Anderson. Emily Swafford also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Cobden's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13. As for Joppa-Maple Grove, they are on a 28-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Cobden wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-36 defeat against Pope County on the 5th. As for Joppa-Maple Grove, they will square off against Shawnee at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
