The West Field Longhorns will face off against the Box Elder Bees at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Field took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Layton.
West Field got a massive performance out of Ayzlee Sessions, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one triple. Kam Bell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
West Field always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Layton only posted an OBP of .417.
Meanwhile, Box Elder entered their tilt with Fremont on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 9-2 victory.
Kennadie Blackmer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kailee Hall and Lucy Griffin did most of the damage at the plate: Hall went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Griffin went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hall has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Oki, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Box Elder's win bumped their record up to 22-3. As for West Field, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Field hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Box Elder struggles in that department as they've averaged .405. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Field came out on top in a nail-biter against Box Elder in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Longhorns repeat their success, or do the Bees have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
