The Morehead Panthers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the T.W. Andrews Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Morehead knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully the Red Raiders like a good challenge.
Even though McMichael scored an imposing 67 points on Friday, Morehead still came out on top. Morehead strolled past the Phoenix with points to spare, taking the game 84-67. Given Morehead's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Phoenix are ranked 380th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morehead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jordan Chandler led the charge by scoring 22 points along with six assists and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Chandler has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Makel Smith, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, T.W. Andrews ended up a good deal behind the Wildcats on Friday and lost 72-53.
Morehead's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for T.W. Andrews, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.
Morehead was able to grind out a solid win over the Red Raiders when the teams last played back in January, winning 68-55. Does Morehead have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
