St. Joseph's Academy and East Ascension are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The St. Joseph's Academy Redstickers will head out to square off against the East Ascension Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. St. Joseph's Academy has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Things were looking good for St. Joseph's Academy after they put the first points on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 15-4 to Central.

Nealy Estave was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Adele Aucoin, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, St. Joseph's Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, East Ascension hadn't done well against Dutchtown recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. East Ascension had just enough and edged out Dutchtown 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cayden Tullier was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Avery Stevens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

East Ascension pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph's Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
