The St. Scholastica Doves will venture away from home to take on the Covington Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Scholastica made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pine, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Doves put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 20-3 win on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Doves considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Karsen Boyet made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Boyet was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ava Gassen was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aubrianne Kavanaugh, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Covington got the win against Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-1.
Like St. Scholastica, Covington also got a great game from a two-way player: Megan Wicker. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. With that strong performance, Wicker is now averaging an impressive 6.7 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Mia Long and Addison Bushnell did most of the damage at the plate: Long scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Bushnell scored a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Addison McDanell was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
The victory got St. Scholastica back to even at 9-9. As for Covington, their record now sits at 14-6.
St. Scholastica took their win against Covington in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Doves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
