The Stevens Point Panthers will head out to take on the Marshfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Stevens Point has seven straight victories, Marshfield has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Stevens Point earned a 6-1 win over Wausau West.
Emma Riberich tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.
At the plate, Stevens Point got a massive performance out of Addi Peskie, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Aubree Itzen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Marshfield came up short against D.C. Everest on Tuesday and fell 5-1.
Marshfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rhyan Costa, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Stevens Point pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Marshfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Stevens Point's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Marshfield, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Stevens Point continue to outrun the ball?
Stevens Point was able to grind out a solid victory over Marshfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
