The Notre Dame Catholic Lancers typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday the Bunnell Bulldogs proved too difficult a challenge. Bunnell sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 victory over Notre Dame Catholic. That's two games straight that Bunnell has won by exactly two points.
Among those leading the charge was Steven Mendoza, who rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bunnell's defense and their five sacks. Leading the way was Rickie Miller and his two sacks.
Despite the loss, Notre Dame Catholic still got an impressive performance from Antwan Davis, who rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.9 yards per carry.
The win (which was Bunnell's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. As for Notre Dame Catholic, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-1.
Bunnell will take on Newtown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Newtown is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Notre Dame Catholic, they will challenge Stratford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stratford is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
