3A Western Slope recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Palisade, who took down 53rd ranked Eagle Valley, 35-7. Luke McLean threw for 178 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 15 yards in the win.
Rifle extended the longest winning streak in 3A Western Slope this week by beating Delta, 21-0. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Chris Black was the best wideout in the league this week as the Panthers fell to Rifle. Black tallied 10 receptions for 103 yards. Ryan Whiteside helped Delta's passing attack out by catching three balls for 42 yards.
Ryan Moeller was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 202 yards as Damon Wells' team fell to Damon Wells' team. Teammate Kellin Leigh added to the ground attack by rushing for 66 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Travis Lundin of Glenwood Springs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1443. He has also thrown five touchdowns. On the ground, the Bears' Moeller has rushed for 1993 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Black. The Delta star has 44 catches for 837 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rifle takes on the Devils. At the moment, the Bears are in first, while Eagle Valley is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Rifle and John Ramunno's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bears comes in having scored 381 this season, while the Devils have scored 361. Rifle scored 21 points last week as it defeated Ben Johnson's team.
Steamboat Springs and Lutheran played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Steamboat Springs eventually emerging with a 21-20 victory.
